Amelia has passed her NVQ level 2 and has undertaken an intensive internal K&M wallcovering course and is currently working alongside her mentor hanging wide vinyl on the 5* Arora Hotel a Balfour Beatty project
Amelia gave an honest and refreshing account about her journey into construction, the barriers she encountered along the way and advice on what she would change in order to attract new talent into the industry.
3 important points that Amelia made to be picked up on for further discussion;
- The key to retention within the industry is for employers to be committed to their staff and the future of the company
- Why after being trained could she not secure a job?, she felt she was a statistic and her future into employment was not their concern!
- Lack of careers advice is schools, felt very gender orientated
The industrial strategy, Construction 2025, announced in July 2013, provided UK construction with a clear and defined set of aspirations. Its vision of where the industry will be by 2025 were the core themes for the Construction Industry Summit Conference.
The 2 day event was in order for the industry to learn what the future holds and how we play our part in helping to shape it. I believe Amelia has made a great contribution to this.
